President Donald Trump says a new security agreement with Denmark and Greenland gives the United States permanent control over Greenland’s security.
The agreement would expand the U.S. military presence on the Arctic island and restrict non-NATO countries from establishing military bases or making certain sensitive investments. The full terms of the agreement remain unclear. Denmark and Greenland have said the deal will not compromise sovereignty and recognizes Greenland’s interests.
