Street takeovers and illegal street racing are prompting crackdowns across the country.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina made more than 80 arrests over the weekend, impounded 38 vehicles and seized 10 guns. The arrests came after the state enacted a new law making participating in, organizing or aiding a street takeover a criminal offense.
In Los Angeles, police arrested 66 people during Operation Street Sweeper after hundreds gathered and shut down public roads and intersections. Chicago residents are also calling on city leaders to address ongoing street racing events.
