President Trump officially launches construction of a new shipyard at Sparrows Point in Baltimore, Maryland, calling it the largest new shipyard in the United States since World War II.
The $3.7 billion project is expected to create more than 3,100 new jobs in Maryland and support an additional 11,000 jobs nationwide. Trump says the shipyard will build the next generation of American submarines and critical components for Virginia-class attack submarines.
Trump also outlined additional U.S. Navy funding of $2.9 billion, with the potential for $21 billion in future purchases, as his administration works to expand America’s maritime and defense industrial base.
