President Trump on Monday will make an announcement alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Navy Secretary John Phelan about shipbuilding.
Earlier this month, Phelan previewed the administration’s plans to build a “Golden Fleet” of Navy ships.
“We will invest smartly in the cornerstones of American seapower—carriers, destroyers, amphibs, and submarines but we also need new ships,” he wrote in a Dec. 7 social media post. “A new frigate, based on an American design, with flexible capability tailored to requirements from our warfighters and @USNavyCNO, and built on a timeline faster than the program we cancelled.”
Trump is in Palm Beach, Fla., and is expected to speak at 4:30 p.m. EST.
