If you aren’t chill with chill don’t even bother with Over The Hill. Unintended rat boy rapping.
Reviewing Over The Hill feels like an invitation to talk about whatever I like. This is a vacation from other games. No time pressures no daily login. Pause, No fomo.
I was trying to think of the most dismissively offensive thing i could say about Over The Hill and the best I could come up with was This is just another ubisoft game, your just unlocking question marks and watchtowers on a map!
The game is structured around spawning into a large map you slowly uncover at your own pace. Eventually finding an exit point that unlocks the next map. Hard to reach Points of interest unlock cosmetics and points can be spent on vehicle upgrades. Like elden ring the punishment is the walkback, and instead of fighting a moving pile of garbage you’re mearly trying to balance on garage.
Over the hill has zero resource management. No burning fuel, which removes excuses to not poke around. You can take nonspecific car damage which is more a gentle reminder to treat your truck like a real thing and not just a go kart, but you can still get silly if you want.
One of my friends bought it on a whim hyped to have goofy fun times with mates, and while he did manage to stir a lot of drama for our group by being inextricably drawn to large bodies of water like a toddler there wasn’t enough fun served to him to not immediately refund it.
Another one of my friends went to refund it as well but then realized he didn’t know how and figured his time was worth more than the money he’d get back.
I was sorta surprised all my friends were jazzed at buying it at all in the first place. I always saw it as an evolution of the devs ongoing love letter to driving that was started with art of rally rather than something a mainstream audience might suicide pact to buy together.
I didn’t even considered the idea of exploring with friends. They aren’t a requirement for enjoying this game. Which is good since they all went to get a pack of cigarettes. Friends can add a spark of life and an occasional helpful lifeline to drag you out of trouble you would have otherwise fast traveled away from.
I think the real moral of this video is that you should maybe watch my videos before buying a game next time you mongs.
The only other form of life in this game are the animals you can photograph and get points for. If this game was exactly the way it was but added Pokemon to photograph it would have made a trillion dollars off nintendo babies by now.
I’ve played other games in this offroading genre that like to get too granular for a tourist like me. Over the hill has abstracted everything cartoonishly to keep it approachable while still maintaining the spirit of exploration.
Judging by my friends reaction, over the hill can’t be hard carried by mates. Only get it if the idea of being by yourself getting jammed between two planks under a blood red sky appeals to you.
Personally i like getting jammed between my planktreons.
Thanks for watching guys. Peace.
