The United States has confirmed for the first time that it has deployed “on-orbit space control weapons” capable of defending the Joint Force against hostile adversary action.
Air Force Secretary Troy Meink announced the capability during the 2026 Air, Space and Cyber Conference. The specific weapons, their capabilities and when they were launched have not been publicly disclosed.
The announcement comes as U.S. officials point to growing space capabilities from China and Russia. Beijing and Moscow have criticized the U.S. disclosure.
