TOP STORIES: Senate passes funding bill to end shutdown, UPS plane crash update, more

Lawmakers have agreed upon a stopgap bill that will reopen the government after a Monday evening vote. But the record-long government shutdown is not quite over. The House must now vote on the legislation before it can head to President Donald Trump’s desk for a signature. Just before the final votes took place, Chad Pergram, Senior Congressional Correspondent for Fox News announced, “the Senate has enough votes to pass the funding bill.” The final Senate vote was 60-40.

Airlines canceled 1,700 flights Monday and almost 1,000 for Tuesday. The Associated Press reported that some air traffic controllers, who aren’t being paid, have stopped showing up to work. Controller shortages resulted in delays of four hours at Chicago O’Hare and 45 minutes in Las Vegas on Monday.

Several people were killed in an explosion near the landmark Red Fort in the densely populated district of the Indian capital New Delhi, city authorities said.
