Can Schools Silence Parents Online? Nevada Case Raises First Amendment Questions

Free speech is under scrutiny in Nevada after the Center for American Liberty filed a federal lawsuit against the Clark County School District. The lawsuit alleges a mother was blocked on social media for questioning a Pride flag in her daughter’s math class, raising questions about whether schools can silence parents online. A similar case in California saw the courts rule that two Poway Unified school board members violated parents’ First Amendment rights by blocking critical comments on social media accounts they sometimes used for school business, costing the district about a million dollars. The cases highlight why local school board elections matter and the importance of protecting parental free speech.
